The AIA Austin Design Excellence Conference delivers dynamic content through renowned keynote speakers, inspiring breakout sessions, and local project tours, all focused on sustainability, resiliency, and inclusive design through the lens of AIA's Framework for Design Excellence. This year, conference attendees can earn up to 18 LUs over the three-day conference, including courses to meet TBAE sustainability and ADA requirements.

This year, we are moving our conference online using Socio, a virtual conference platform. After registration and before the conference dates, you will be sent instructions for attending the conference in Socio. You will be able to access all courses and can also build a personal agenda within your profile. Please note that your access to Socio will will use the e-mail address that you used to register.

Eight Conference Scholarships, sponsored by Heritage Tree Care, Positive Energy, John Nyfeler, FAIA, and an anonymous firm leader will cover the cost of full-conference registration for Associate Members, AIAS Student Members, or other AIA Austin members experiencing financial hardship. To apply for a scholarship, submit a one-page resume and one-page statement describing your interest in this year’s conference, the benefits you expect to gain from attendance, and your financial need to bridget@aiaaustin.org by Monday, August 10. Decisions will be sent to applicants by August 14. Scholarship recipients who already paid for registration will receive a refund.

Continuing Education Requirements

AIA measures continuing education in learning units (LUs). One hour of continuing education earns one LU. AIA Architect members are required to complete 18 LUs each calendar year. Of those 18 LUs, 12 must be in Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) topics.

However, in order to maintain your license in the state of Texas, all registered architects (this includes practicing Emeritus members) must complete at least 12 Continuing Education Program Hours (CEPH) per calendar year. More information can be found on the TBAE website.
