Join us Thursday, June 15th, at 11:45AM at the Austin Center for Architecture for a discussion on Contract Basics. Leading the Roundtable discussion will be AIA Board of Directors at Large Member, Matthew Ryan. Matthew is a Partner at Allensworth and Porter, an Austin based construction law firm, as well as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas. He will be touching on issues related to contracts and construction law.

Discussion to include topics such as:

  • Common sources of trouble in conducting the practice of architecture in Texas
  • Risk avoidance during times of conflict, and methods of resolving disputes.
  • An update on the latest developments in Texas court decisions, and the implications of those holdings for how to draft contracts and conduct the practice of architecture.
  • Examples of enforcement issues involving the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners, with specific insights on avoiding grievances.
  • Contract- and architectural practice-related principles, building on the 2015 presentation entitled, "The Ten Commandments of Architectural Services Agreements.

Mission
Members of AIA Austin small firms' committee (generally characterized as having 10 or fewer employees, designing small to medium projects) meet monthly to learn and discuss architectural practice and continually reach out to a diverse community of emerging small firms owners.

The committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 11:45am.
