Inspiring a Special Waterfront

The story of revitalizing Philadelphia’s riverfront and a prelude to a community conversation about the future of Lady Bird Lake’s South Shore Central waterfront.

Lecture by Harris Steinberg FAIA, director of Penn Praxis. Mr. Steinberg guided a public planning process involving over 4,000 people to create a master plan for the riverfront in Philadelphia. The “Civic Vision for the Central Delaware Riverfront,” covering a 7 mile stretch of waterfront, overcame political division to create a unified plan that has begun to catalyze major redevelopment. Mr. Steinberg will speak of the work and approach used by Penn Praxis, and about best practices for both participatory planning and waterfront planning.

You’re invited to find out about the opportunities and challenges from the leader in Philadelphia’s successful visioning effort.

Public Reception begins at 5:30 p.m. Featured speaker begins at 6:15 p.m. This is a free community event.

Dougherty parking is limited. Carpools or other alternate transportation is recommended.

Hosted by AIA Austin and the City of Austin’s Waterfront Planning Advisory Board and Sustainable Design Assessment Team Steering Committee.
