Furman + Keil Architects Hillside Residence

The Hillside Residence presentation will describe the evolution of schematic design to maximize the program on a challenging urban lot.  We will discuss how we used the site constraints to find unique design opportunities while adhering to Subchapter F guidelines.  Our client will speak of his experience self-performing as general contractor and the finish technique of the board-formed interior and exterior concrete walls.

Learning Objectives

  1. Assess the challenges and solutions of complex program requirements on a small urban lot.
  2. Evaluate site constraints and develop design opportunities from them.
  3. Understand the residential permit review process and how Subchapter F is interpreted on a sloped and uniquely shaped lot.
  4. Describe the challenges of meeting project expectations when working with a client who is also the general contractor.
