When Ryan Lemmo, AIA and Stephanie Lemmo, Assoc. AIA of Lemmo Architecture and Design set out to find a lot for their personal home, they had 2 goals: walkability to their East Austin office and affordability. The only lot meeting those seemingly simple criteria was small, narrow, pressed against a loud busy street and neighboring auto mechanics shops. The resulting home design attempts to use these constraints as an advantage while utilizing a limited budget. They will discuss these challenges while focusing on an urban yet intimate connection to the landscape. In addition Waller Building Company (GC) and Sam Covey (Structural Engineer) will be available to present their unique perspectives on the project and answer questions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Assess the challenges and solutions to zero-energy home design and solar integration.
  2. Recognize design restrictions and opportunities when working on small lots in a well-established residential community.
  3. Evaluate tradeoffs when pushing the design envelope and maximizing structural efficiency while on a tight budget.
  4. Use native plants to enhance the indoor and outdoor experience for residents and the neighborhood.

Lunch will be generously provided by Mirror Gallery Inc. (MGI), Waller Building Company, and Fort Structures.

The Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN) is a resource for those that practice residential architecture. Montly meetings usually consist of a project tour, continuing education, and lunch. Our meetings and events are open to everyone, and we invite you to become more involved with CRAN.
