Green Home Design

A project by Restructure Studio will be featured in this month's CRAN tour, with presentation by Carina Coel, AIA, Principal Architect and Founder.

The Woodway Residence by Restructure Studio and Foshea Custom Homes is a renovation-turned-new build due to the discovery of collapsed cast iron pipes in the existing foundation, as well as an extent of other work that needed to happen.  The owners had recently added a beautiful screened porch, so the project team ended up demolishing the main part of the house, keeping the screened porch, and building a new home around it.

The lot is relatively flat and already incorporates an extensive amount of water mitigation on site, so one of the challenges was to work around those pre-existing conditions as well as several protected trees on the site.  All of this was done while pursuing a 5-star Green Building rating from Austin Energy Green Building.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discover how the project design was influenced by existing site conditions.
  2. Evaluate the process for achieving a Green Building Rating with Austin Energy Green Building Program.
  3. Reconcile construction challenges with the project budget.
  4. Experience the various spaces created to satisfy the client's requirements.
