Please join AIA Austin Committee On The Environment (COTE) for a tour and a hands-on demonstration/mini-clinic at a home that is piloting the PHIUS 2018+ Passive House certification process with a focus on the high air sealing. The tour will highlight the benefits of above code air tightness, building assemblies, and balanced ventilation with a focus on air sealing. Participants participate in a blower door test and learn about how to detail and build an air tight home.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn about PHIUS 2018+ Passive house certification, what the metrics are that must be met and what it's benefits are to the occupants.
  2. Understand the benefits of air tight assemblies and balance continuous ventilation.
  3. Learn about high performance construction methods used in a passive house and what some of the challenges and benefits are to using them, in particular air tight assemblies with continuous insulation in a residential wall system.
  4. Experience and participate in a blower door test.
