AIA 2030 Commitment Subcommittee: Embodied Carbon

AIA’s Climate Action Plan states that climate change affects every person, every project, and every client. The 2030 Commitment supports urgent climate action for firms of all sizes. This four-part 2030 Commitment webinar series is for architects, designers, and engineers. All participants will have a basic understanding of the 2030 Commitment, information to craft their own Sustainability Action Plan, tools for impacting their projects performance, and a peer network to continue working towards 2030 goals.

This session will have a primer on embodied carbon, as this has become increasingly important for architects to consider in addressing climate change. Martin Torres will cover the basics of embodied carbon, describe biogenic carbon, provide some strategies for reducing EC, and explain some of the policy efforts the Carbon Leadership Forum are pursuing.

Following the embodied carbon presentation, we will be forming a peer-to-peer network to help sign on to the 2030 Commitment. The groups can review Sustainability Action Plans, answer questions about reporting project, define strategies and tools and share successes and failures. While there will be leaders to help answer questions, the goal of this network is to expand and support the 2030 Commitment Signatories in Austin.
