AIA Austin Design Awards + COTE presents Common App Clinics

Please join us for two clinics on January 18 and February 22 to help you prepare for this year’s design awards submissions.

In this year’s letter to membership, 2022 AIA President, Robert Ivy, states that AIA is prioritizing climate action efforts through resources, programs, and education to transform awareness and the day-to-day practice of architecture now and into the future. AIA Austin shares this priority and believes that aligning our awards program to support the values of the Institute is important. In 2022 AIA Austin will be transitioning from requiring the Design Excellence Scorecard to the Common App(lication) to simplify the process of multiple award submissions so that firms of all sizes and resources can fairly compete, and to collect, track, and make available to the membership consistent data of our work. By providing award juries with broader and more consistent performance information, projects may be evaluated more holistically in multiple aspects of performance.

Clinic 1: Rewarding What We Value: Introducing the Common App

To align with the AIA Framework for Design Excellence as well as the TSA Awards requirements, the AIA Austin Design Awards is transitioning from the Design Excellence Scorecard to the Common App(lication) as a requirement with all project submissions in 2022 and will be used by the jury as criteria for consideration. If you are planning on submitting for the 2022 Design Awards, we highly encourage you attend our upcoming Clinics. This initial clinic will introduce you to the ten measures that constitute the Framework and will walk you through the organization of the Common App. We’ll answer the following questions: What is it? Why does it matter? What types of questions are included?
