Join the Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) for Understanding BOMA Measurement Standards for the Healthcare Industry, a presentation by Mary Lawrence, President/CEO of Dimensions Floorplans. This one-hour course will focus on BOMA Measurement Standards as applied to different types of Medical buildings. The presenter will offer a high-level discussion of the three basic Standards used for each application and the proper terminology, use and definitions within the Standards. The three BOMA Standards discussed will be the BOMA 2017 Office Standard and the BOMA 2019 Gross Area Standard and a brief look at the 2010 Retail Standard. These 3 standards are used in 99% of all health care industry buildings. The attendee will leave with a basic understanding of proper building area calculations and methods.

Learning Objectives for this continuing education event are:

  1. Identify correct BOMA Measurement Standard to use for different types of Healthcare buildings:
    • Medical Offices
    • Hospitals and Clinics
    • Medical Office Condos
    • Retail Centers with Medical Use
  2. Recognize proper technical/ polyline etiquette and space allocations for areas such as stairs, core, demising walls, common areas.
  3.  Describe calculations of useable, rentable and gross area square footages.
  4.  Evaluate how and why the standards are rewritten and how BOMA is updating current standards to correlate with International Standards.
