Earthen Construction : Rammed Earth

This month's BEC: Austin meeting will host a presentation by Micah Land, Partner, Michael Hsu Office of Architecture discussing the construction, materials, processes, and aesthetic considerations of working with rammed earth.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify the techniques in a rammed earth project.
  2. Participants will be able to identify the construction processes for a rammed earth project.
  3. Participants will be able to identify the aesthetic value of a rammed earth project.
  4. Participants will gain knowledge about the history of earthen construction, in particular, rammed earth.

BEC: Austin is an interdisciplinary organization that promotes the exchange of information on building enclosures and related science specific to the climate of Central Texas.

Interdisciplinary:  architects, engineers, contractors, building owners, consultants, facility managers, code officials, educators, manufacturers, and those with a stake in building enclosure performance

Exchange of information:  discussion, training, education, outreach, and awareness

Building enclosures and related science:  energy-efficiency, moisture control, indoor air quality, longevity, and durability

BEC: Austin typically meets the first Wednesday of each month from 12-1pm.
