Keeping Up with Changes - Evolution of Roofing

Join BEC: Austin for special guest Dennis Wilson, RRC, RRO, CCPR, CDT of Building Exterior Solutions as he presents on the evolving commercial roofing industry. The last 10 to 20 years have seen major changes in products, design approach, and methods of installation. The presenter will address significant changes, specifically the changes driven by code revisions, insurance companies and catastrophic events. Recent changes to the International Building Code and the Factory Mutual Global Standards are discussed. Participants will be able to apply the latest standards to roof design, reducing the damaging effects and subsequent health risks of moisture intrusion into today’s facilities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe common commercial roof assemblies and their on the building environment, health and safety of the occupants.
  2. Identify roof assembly components, common sources and the long-term effects of water entry on buildings and occupants.
  3. Summarize the changes to roof assemblies driven by building codes, the insurance industry, and catastrophic events such as roof blow-off and collapse.
  4. Select appropriate roof assemblies for a project and indicate roof warranty expectations for these assemblies.
