Design Awards

On May 10, the Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Austin) gathered Members, Allied Members, community leaders, and architecture enthusiasts at the Austin Central Library to celebrate stellar design and those leading the charge to improve Austin’s built environment. Just three weeks prior, four esteemed jurors—Billie Faircloth, AIA, Claudia Harari, Andrew Klare, and Roberto de Leon, FAIA—spent the weekend in Austin deliberating over 146 submissions. With much thoughtful debate, the jurors narrowed the submissions to 14 Design Award winners and 4 Awards of Merit recipients. All of the award-winning projects were located in Austin.

“This year’s jurors were incredibly thoughtful and rigorous,” says AIA Austin Executive Director Ingrid Spencer. “They were interested in projects that elevated a building type or sent a message that design could solve problems, be functional, and still be beautiful. They wanted to show that Austin architects are truly transforming Austin—with projects that bring attention to underused public spaces, challenge traditional building technology, interact with landscapes in unique ways, and provide our city with beautiful, comfortable, human-scaled gathering spaces, houses, and businesses.” The resulting awards represent exceptional recent work by Austin architects and AIA Austin members.
