Over the past two years, the AIA Austin has gathered input regarding Subchapter E from it's membership and thru the work of it's various subcommittees and partner organizations in anticipation of the City of Austin's upcoming revision.  This feedback was presented to City staff first in November 2011 with the goal of helping the City identify areas in the current code that needed attention and improvement.  Subsequent working sessions with City staff have resulted in the Proposed Amendments to LCD Chapter 25-2, Subchapter E before City Council scheduled for public hearing on May 9, 2013.
AIA Austin thanks the City of Austin and City staff for including stakeholder input from the design and engineering community for the betterment of Subchapter E and for Austin's built environment.
Although this amendment does not and cannot address all the known issues regarding Subchapter E, the AIA Austin supports this amendment as an improvement to clarity and consistency of the current code until the LDC rewrite is undertaken as a whole.
