Recently you have seen news regarding plans by TxDOT for possible changes in  Downtown Austin as part of the mobility solutions for IH35.  The Board of Directors of AIA Austin via President Jana McCann, FAIA, has notified TxDOT of our interest in seeing TxDOT proceed with a thorough investigation and vetting of the various concepts including the proposed "depressed" Downtown freeway segment shown in recent IH-35 public meetings and which is being termed as the "Reconnecting Austin" alternative (such as that presented by Sinclair Black, FAIA.)   McCann further stated that we would like to understand the costs and benefits of this option (including the economic development, environment and neighborhood connectivity benefits), as well as understand the key technical and constructability approaches to ventilation, construction sequencing, interim traffic control, etc.

In response, TxDOT will make a presentation for interested AIA Austin members on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 5:00pm at the Center for Architecture.

Reservations are required for the this Members Only event.  Make yours here if you would like to attend - as seating is extremely limited.
