Working with an Architect

Few people realize how complicated it is to build - until they find themselves lost in the maze of design options, building codes, zoning laws, contractors, and so on.  No two projects are exactly the same, so there is no single, clear-cut path.

An architect is a qualified professional with the education, training, experience, vision, and license to guide you through the entire design and construction process, from helping you define what you want to build - to helping get the most for your construction dollar.

Architects look at the big picture. They don’t just design four walls and a roof - they create total environments, interiors and exteriors, that satisfy functional needs and are exciting, dynamic spaces in which to work and live.

Whether you are remodeling, adding on, or building from scratch, you should first consult with an architect.  He or she will help ensure that you have a well-designed project that meets your needs and works with your budget and time frame.  Your architect will also help you work with contractors and other construction professionals.

It's always a good idea to confirm your architect is in good standing with the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners, who regulate and maintain registration for all architects licensed to practice in the state.  A registered architect, interior designer, or landscape architect is required to adhere to specific standards and criteria set forth in law, including acquiring continued professional education every year.  It is against the law for any individual to claim to be an architect, landscape architect or interior designer and not, in fact, be registered.  Visit TBAE for general information about architectural registration.
