Did you know…that as a member of AIA Austin you have access to great member benefits?  Chapter leadership is currently working to plan continuing education opportunities, building tours, design award programs, a Homes Tour and more!

Check out what's happening:

Committee meetings – join one or more of over 16 active committees.  Are you interested in residential, healthcare, committee on the environment, design awards, homes tour, etc.  Our committees are a great way for you to learn more about topics of interest and to network with your peers.  More information is available on the Get Involved drop down on our website.

Luncheon Speaker Series – the series takes place five times each year and includes lunch at Green Pastures Restaurant, along with locally driven topic/speakers.  The series will begin again in February 2013.

Building Tours – AIA Austin hosts several building tours each year.  On January 10th at 5:45pm, we'll tour the new UT Dell/Gates Computer Science Building, more here.  Do you have a building that you'd like us to tour?  If so, let Elizabeth know!

Continuing Education - In 2013 Texas architects will need 12 Health, Safety and Welfare hours, along with 4 Sustainable Design hours.  AIA members need a total of 18 Learning Units which include the 12 HSW and 4 SD.   Between Food for Thought Classes, The Luncheon Speaker Series, Summer Conference, Texas Architects Convention and committee meetings and tours, you can get your requirements and more!

Food for Thought (FFT) Classes – we offer at least one to two FFT classes here in our office each month.  These classes are FREE to our members!  AIA Austin offered over 75 continuing education hours in 2012!

Summer Conference - if you can't get your hours through our monthly Food for Thought Classes, you can get up to 18 learning units in two days at our Summer Conference and Product Expo.  It's a great way to catch up with friends, get all of your continuing education and see some great new products and/or services in a local Austin way.

Allied Member Finder – Looking for products and/or services for a project?  Our Allied Member finder is a great way to do a search.  Or, contact the chapter office for some suggestions.

Firm Finder -  The Firm Finder is a way for the public and potential clients to search for an architect that specializes in residential, healthcare, religious and more.  Don't see yourself on the list, contact Elizabeth to learn how to add yourself.

Homes Tour– the 27th Annual Homes Tour is scheduled for November 2-3, 2013.  The committee is already working on the tour - call for entries will be out in January.  If you'd like to join the committee, their next meeting is on January 14th at 5:45pm.

Design Awards / Honor Awards Celebration - AIA Austin's Design Awards program showcases excellence in design produced by our members as selected by a distinguished panel of jurors. In addition, from distinguished leadership by an emerging professional to achievements in public architecture or for commitment to their community, AIA Austin honors five individuals or firms that demonstrate the work of architects and non-architects as leaders.   Winners will be announced at the Annual Awards Celebration on April 11th at the newly re-designed UT Visual Arts Center.  The Call for Entries will be available in January.

Archi-Facts – this is our weekly e-newsletter.  If you have an event or company news that you'd like to share, contact the Chapter office.  Send your news and ads each Friday for the following Monday Archi-Facts.  News and ads are accepted on a first come - first served basis.

Point Perspective – this is our monthly e-newsletter.  It goes out the first Monday of each month.  Articles and ads are due the Friday before the first of each month.  Contact Elizabeth to learn more.

Website Ads– these ads are a great way to advertise to both our members and the public.  You can use your ad to show off products, services, classes, etc.  Contact Elizabeth for ad rates.

Contract Documents - Starting in 2013, AIA Austin will sell only the top 28 documents.  Please be aware that the retail price for paper documents is increasing significantly in 2013 to offset the increased costs that AIA National is experiencing due to lower print quantities and higher fixed costs.  We will continue to fulfill orders for all other documents until our existing inventory is depleted; AIA National will do the same. Once paper inventory is out, documents will only be available through Documents-On-Demand or Document Software.  Contact Lauren for more information.

Advocacy - AIA Austin members continue to build important relationships with City of Austin staff and leadership by working together to improve process, offer "in the trenches" experience and serving on boards and commissions.  We have become an important stakeholder in conversations about planning and the build environment.   Join us on the Urban Design & Government Affairs Committee to be part of that important work.

Our members are also active with the Small Firms Roundtable, Committee on the Environment, Healthcare, Historic Resources and the Building Enclosure Council.   The Emerging Professionals committee will be expanding their programming in 2013 to include activities and events for those working toward licensure and young architects beginning their post licensure career.
