Architecture in Schools: Volunteers Needed

Austin area 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are looking for a number of volunteers in the design  industry to lead them through a program cultivated by the AIA Austin's Architecture in Schools committee.

The Architecture in Schools program is a fun-filled eight-week course taught to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in their classroom, using a curriculum and activities developed by AIA Austin.  We need volunteers who can devote approximately an hour of their time every week for classroom instruction (plus an additional approx hour- for instruction preparation and travel to/from the campus).  Classroom instruction begins in September and runs until the middle of November.

An hour workshop will be held at the Center for Architecture in the last week of August (Aug 26-29) to review each grade level's curriculum, meet the other volunteers, and discuss the expectations for the upcoming year.  As a volunteer, you would only attend one of those nights.

Any interested parties should contact John Cameron at, if they wish to volunteer or would just like to have more information about this truly fun and exciting program. You may find you’ll enjoy it more than the kids!
