Projects range from several single family homes, to 10+ acre master planned communities, that can include commercial buildings, condominiums, apartments, townhomes, hotels, etc. The StoryBuilt team considers all urban typologies on our projects and strategically designs complete communities to provide not only in demand housing and commercial buildings, but thoughtful urban spaces to help these communities thrive.
The Project Architect is the person primarily responsible for leading StoryBuilt projects, from design through construction. Critical aspects of this role include owning the process, schedule and deliverables of 1-3 StoryBuilt projects per year. Under the supervision of department leadership, the Project Architect is responsible for coordinating with StoryBuilt disciplines and third-party consultants, as well as providing quality control of all construction documents for their projects. They will manage and mentor production support employees and provide guidance to the architectural department on best practices and lessons learned.

  • Bachelor (5 yr.) or Master Degree in Architecture.
  • Architectural license is preferred, but not required. Without license, position title will be Project Designer.
  • 6+ years working in an architectural office, with the following experience:
    • Coordinating site design and knowledge of local zoning codes.
    • Permitting buildings.
    • Coordinating work with consultants. Ability to review structural and civil drawings.
    • Working through design and production of drawings, from schematic design through construction documents, on a variety of building types. Ability to put together a set of CD’s with minimal supervision by others.
    • Exposure to project pro formas and budgets.
    • Working knowledge of IBC and IRC.
    • 2+ years of construction observation. Experience with multi-family and mixed-use construction is preferred. Experience with reviewing submittals and shop drawings.
    • Presenting design work to clients and internal teams in a succinct, clear and professional manner.
    • Software: Expertise in Revit, AutoCAD and Adobe Suite.
  • 2+ years experience in mixed-use and/or multi-family drawing production and construction administration is preferred.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

1. Land Planning / Schematic Design:

  • Create zoning analysis including and coordinate land plan with the Civil Engineer.
  • Iterate design concepts for buildings and land plans with department leaders.
  • Create all presentations and present work to internal teams at StoryBuilt for approvals.

2. Design Development and CD's:

  • Act as the daily go-to for all consultants. Coordinate work with consultants and manage schedule.
  • Perform building code analysis and verify all code related items during the design and production of documents.
  • Provide Revit drawing assistance as required, depending on scale and scope of project. Smaller projects will have less support staff, and larger projects that require substantial management will have 1-3 production support employees. Manage construction document production, including drawings and specifications. Specifications may require additional assistance from third party consultants, which will be managed by Project Architect.
  • Assist marketing team with materials for project sales / rentals.
  • Assist with permit process with materials, attending meetings and reviews as required.
  • Meet deadlines and communicate to department leadership and development team about all deviations to the schedule.
  • Review documents for clarity, compliance, and completeness at regular intervals.

3. Construction:

  • Perform site visits as required by the project. Generate RFI’s and follow through/direct responses as required.
  • Produce architectural sketches and plan revisions.
  • Review and log all submittals.
  • Coordinate all issuances with StoryBuilt Ops team.

4. General Responsibilities:

  • Keep project management software up to date, including schedule and deliverables.
  • Be proactive on finding project solutions and be open to innovative approaches to complicated projects.

Compensation and Benefits:
