Wheelhouse Design is looking for a talented Interior Designer to join our collaborative design team, working under the direction of the Principal Designer on projects ranging from consultations to custom new construction, both residential and commercial in nature. We are looking for a motivated, self-directed team member who can take initiative while maintaining a collaborative mentality and open communication. The position is full-time (32+ hours per week), starting as a contract position with transition opportunity to full employment with benefits. Compensation is commensurate with experience and competitive with the local market.

Required Skills:

  • Consistent ability to work independently and as part of a team on projects of varying scales, exhibiting strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, time management and the ability to follow a task to completion
  • Ability to be proactive and maintain a positive attitude with a resourceful approach
  • Must exhibit a strong eye for design and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of the entire design process, including experience with space planning, design development, finish and fixture specifications, detailed documentation, furnishings selections, and installations
  • Demonstrates confidence in communications with clients and in various presentation formats
  • Must be able to work with urgent deadlines, multiple priorities and multiple team members

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience as a design team member in an Interior Design and/or Architectural firm
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or equivalent field experience (5+ years)
  • Advanced computer skills to include AutoCAD (Mac platform preferred), SketchUp, IVY, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and Adobe Creative Suite

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Obtain accurate on-site dimensions and photos of existing spaces for reference throughout the project
  • Create and revise floor plans, electrical and furniture plans, and detailed interior elevations. Hand sketching is welcome and encouraged!
  • Select all fixtures, finishes and furnishings that align with project design and budget parameters across a variety of styles, ensuring selections meet aesthetic and spatial requirements as well as client priorities
  • Create design and finish presentations for internal and client review, ensuring presentation graphics meet studio standards
  • Create specifications and schedules as required for finishes and fixtures
  • Review plumbing and appliance specifications, millwork shop drawings & vendor bids
  • Produce initial budget studies, Bid Sets for general contractors, and Permit Sets for local municipalities
  • Attend site visits throughout the construction process as necessary
  • Coordinate with Operations Administrator to track procurement for projects of varying scales from purchasing through installation, working directly with vendors and installers as required
  • Maintain and update studio materials resource library, keeping a pulse on current design trends
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with new and existing clients, general contractors, vendors, trades, and other design disciplines
  • Assist with general office tasks, errands, sample returns… whatever it takes to get the job done
  • Maintain willingness to be flexible and creative
