Position Summary: 

The CAD Team Lead/Technician works closely with the CAD Manager, Design Team and Rendering Studio to ensure technical design and fabrication requirements are clearly conveyed on drawings and specifications.  This role is responsible for providing accurate and efficient drafting support to the Design Teams and strongly supporting the migration from AutoCAD to Revit.  The CAD Team Lead/Technician ensures design details and elevation documentation is organized and clear.  

Measures of Success:

  • Provides an organized, technical production environment supporting Sr. Designers who focus on design direction in lieu of construction documentation.
  • Educate Team Members in Revit, AutoCAD and support them in their use of new and other current software.
  • Drafting and Construction Document tasks are accomplished within or below established fees.
  • StudioSIX5 documents are fully coordinated with all consultant drawings.
  • Insuring SS5 Revit and AutoCAD Drawing Standards are maintained and met on all Projects.


  • Creates CAD design details in Revit and/or AutoCAD for ease of constructability.
  • Assures integrity of Revit and AutoCAD data files created and received.
  • Supports and interfaces with Design Teams to assure feasibility of design and applies Project Design concepts to Design Details.
  • Maintains, communicates and promotes Revit and AutoCAD drafting standards with Design Teams.
  • Provides daily drafting support in Revit and AutoCAD to Design Teams and other Design teams if required.
  • Works with CAD Manager to ensure accurate information is provided for future developments.
  • Continuously utilizes standard details to improve project profitability.
  • Accurately produces, interprets and/or modifies drawing redlines.
  • Tests and trains Design Team members and new hires on Revit, AutoCAD and other software.
  • Assists with coordination of consultant drawings, i.e. architectural, food service/MEP.
  • Assists CAD Manager in troubleshooting software integration issues.
  • Completes drafting tasks within allotted hours.
  • Completes self-reviews of drafting tasks before handoff to CAD Manager for review.
  • Incorporates design features and components from existing products into new designs, to decrease tooling costs and increase overall company efficiencies.
  • Assists CAD Manager in producing and developing policies and procedures to ensure the drawing library is kept up to date and in a consistent format; and to further educate Design Team members on their Revit and AutoCAD capabilities.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Exhibits a high level of proficiency in current Revit, AutoCAD and rendering software.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of building systems, specifications and construction methods, codes and zoning issues.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, construction documents, presentation drawings, and models.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently, and as part of a team, and is an avid learner.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to be proactive and maintain a positive attitude with a resourceful approach.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow a task to completion.
  • Advanced computer skills to include Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Virtual Reality, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and Adobe Creative Suite is required.
  • Responsible for downloading Consultants Revit Models, reviewing and updating the Model as required for Design Team and Rendering Studio use.
  • Works with Rendering Studio to provide the most current model, Plans and other information the Rendering Studio may require for its work.

Experience / Education:

  • Two plus (2+) years of experience as a CAD Lead/Technician in an Architectural/Interior Design firm is required.
  • Experience in senior living, hospitality, multi-family, healthcare design is preferred.  
  • Minimum of an Associates of Applied Science in Architectural Specialization or related field.
  • Drafting Certificate with 5 plus (5+) years of drafting experience may be substituted.
