Terracon's Austin, TX Facilities office is looking for a Staff Architect, Staff Engineer, or Staff Facilities Professional to join our Building Enclosure Consulting team. Our office has a wide diversity of experience, but in common is our passion for building enclosures, building science, and building problem solving. Our clients include architects, contractors, and buildings owners, and our services include:

  • Evaluation of Existing Buildings, Historic Preservation

  • Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) of new and existing buildings

  • Design Peer Review and Design Assistance, Detail Development

  • Hygrothermal and Durability Analysis

  • Construction Phase Site Visits, Submittal and Shop Drawing Review

  • Acceptance and Diagnostic Testing

General Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate on teams in the performance of building diagnostics projects that may include building enclosure assessments, roofing, façade, waterproofing, litigation support, field testing, and distress studies

  • Perform and/or direct field investigations, including moisture intrusion, non-destructive testing and fenestration/façade testing

  • Develop and design construction documents related to roof replacement, building enclosure refurbishment, glazed assembly replacement, and associated building enclosure remediation work

  • Work closely with project teams and clients in developing construction documents (e.g.: plans, sections, details, technical specifications) related to building envelope assemblies

  • Prepare technical reports, develop technical presentations, and participate in the development of other technical content in conformance with Terracon’s quality and professional standards and policies

  • Participate in business development including establishing new clients, furthering relationships with existing clients, participating in professional organizations, and actively participating in the implementation of marketing strategies

  • Actively participate in technical and professional associations. 

Basic qualifications are:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Engineering, Architectural, or Construction Science, or 5 years of working in the construction industry

  • Understanding of architectural, structural and basic mechanical and electrical system design documents

  • Ability to provide clear and well-written reports to client

  • Knowledge of building codes, design guidelines, and industry standards

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

  • Comfortable working on elevated work platforms and walking surfaces including ground supported and suspended scaffolding as well as aerial boom and scissor lifts associated with access of mid- to high-rise building facades and roofs

Additional preferred qualifications are:

  • RCI designation as an RRO, RRC, RWC, REWC, or RBEC

  • Air Barrier Association of America “ABAA,” ABAA Inspector, Certified EIFS Inspector, AAMA Fenestration Master, AAMA Fenestration Associate, Certified Thermographer, or similar

  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office applications

  • Experience with THERM, WUFI
