Pfluger Architects, a Texas-based, award-winning architecture firm with extensive experience in educational facility planning, design, and construction administration, is seeking an Architectural Specifications Writer. We are a fast paced, mid-sized firm with offices in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. Candidates should demonstrate strong design and communication skills, be highly self-motivated, team oriented, and willing to learn.   • Provide Quality Control and development of Pfluger Master Specifications
  • Develop project specifications and review all projects at specified phases of development
  • Develop solutions and recommendations for identified technical and design issues
  • Oversee compliance of project documents with existing codes, regulations and laws
  • Consult with Project Architects to ensure Pfluger standards are upheld
  • Maintain current information on new technology, products, and systems
  • Attend client and consultant meetings as needed


  • 5+ years of experience in specification writer role. Educational or commercial experience on large projects preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering, or equivalent in education/experience


  • Computer conversant and proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat. Revit experience a plus
  • Construction Specifications Institute Certification preferred
  • Have knowledge of LEED and sustainable practices
  • Attention to detail and grammar in written work, and in all other areas of responsibility
  • Must be highly organized, motivated, self-starter with an aptitude for learning
  • Able to deal within the framework of a large organization and work with others as a team player
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks, demonstrate adaptability by often changing assignments on short notice
  • Strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, design trends, products, construction methodology, building systems, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
  • Travel within Texas to three office locations is anticipated
