Who we are
The objective of the Office of the University Architect is to support Texas A&M University’s mission of teaching and research by providing leadership, vision and professional guidance in the planning, design and construction changes to the campus built environment. We provide assistance in the initial planning of projects, which includes building site planning, needs assessments, preliminary program of requirements (POR), etc. required for the University to comply with TAMU System policies regarding capital project initiation and development. We ensure that development and changes to the built environment encompass an integrated approach toward the long-term sustainability and management of architectural, environmental, cultural and land resources. We also serve as TAMU’s representative of major capital projects, which includes acting as a resource for students, faculty, staff, SSC Service Solutions, and the TAMU System Facilities Planning & Construction groups. What we want

The Architectural Project Manager IV, will be under the supervision and direction of the University Architect and will be responsible for: acting on behalf of the Office of the University Architect as a representative in the project management of capital projects for renovation and new construction on campus; coordinating design and construction of changes to the campus built environment with users, Facilities Services/SSC, and the TAMU System Facilities Planning and Construction (FP&C) office; and ensuring that proposed projects are in compliance with the Campus Master Plan (such as the Campus Development Plan, Architectural Campus Guidelines, and Heritage Conservation guidelines) and TAMU Facility Design Guidelines. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six years in design or construction with experience in project management
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of architectural design and planning principles and practices
  • Knowledge of building components/ systems and their functions
  • Knowledge of construction principles and practices
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents; knowledge of planning software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders, professional colleagues, consultants, and users in a team environment
  • Demonstrated time management skills, resulting in the ability to manage multiple capital projects, client relationships and prioritize time and resources accordingly
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering or closely related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Project management experience for building types associated with an educational campus for large capital projects ($4M+)
  • Experience reviewing and providing guidance on construction mock-up reviews from an aesthetic perspective
  • Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
  • LEED Accredited Professional
  • Registered Architect in the State of Texas or Certified Construction Manager
