CodeNEXT arrives at City Council!

City Council has a decision to make this month.  Let's encourage City Council to authorize the CodeNEXT teams to continue into a workshop phase where interdisciplinary teams infuse our adopted Image Austin priorities into all layers of the code and regulatory framework.  We cannot ignore the urgency of growth that, in the absence of a healthy regulatory system, threatens to apply destabilizing pressures on our community.

Thank you to Habitat for Humanity for a great build on Saturday and a big thanks to all of our AIA members who helped make the Women in Architecture Build Day a success!  We ended up with pretty perfect weather (for mid-July) and despite the mud, we had a great time!!

Special shout out to Rebekah, Sarah, Ellen, Christy, Selina, and Azusa for spending their Saturday outside in the heat and in the mud for a great day of building!

The Tejano Monument: a Dream, a Plan, a Legacy

Join AIA Austin’s “Latinos in Architecture” for an architecture and public art discussion with Jaime Beaman, former AIA president and principal of CasaBella Architects.  As a member of the Tejano Monument Committee, Mr. Beaman oversaw the design and construction of the historical monument to commemorate the 500-year role of Tejanos in Texas and the Spanish-Mexican legacy in the state.  The idea for the monument was conceived in 2000 and thus began The Tejano Monument’s 12-year journey to a prominent place on the Capitol grounds.
