The Public Interest Design Institute (PIDI), to be held at UT Austin on March 22 and 23, will offer training for architects on how to become proactively engaged in this rapidly growing field.  Learning objectives include finding new clients, learning about new fee sources & structures, understanding public interest design and leveraging other partners and assets to address project challenges.  Research from the 2011 AIA Latrobe Prize and 2012 SEED Award projects will be presented.  PIDI participants will become certified in this emerging public practice and earn continuing education cre

The MUSIC IN ARCHITECTURE - ARCHITECTURE IN MUSIC Symposium is a once-in-a-lifetime, two-and-a-half-day event on the UT campus between October 19 and 21.  A year in the planning, it will feature 11 original live music performances of collaborations between architects and musicians, 18 fascinating papers, lectures, and much more...culminating with the premiere on the Bass Concert Hall stage, on the night of October 21, of Paul Dresher and Michael Benedikt's LOW CLOSE VAST, a work for 12 musicians in three movements and three amazing spatial transformations.

This design exhibit aims to showcase the work and talent of Austin Latino architecture and design professionals during the 2011 celebrations of National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept.15-Oct.15). Design entries will be on display at the Mexican American Cultural Center, a one-of-a-kind facility dedicated to the preservation, creation, presentation, and promotion of cultural arts and heritage.
