The Intersection of Design and Human Health

We will begin disussion on Monday about our proposed theme for 2016 which is about how architecture and planning can promote human health.

We would like to invite everyone to attend this meeting to look ahead to 2016 and discuss a program that involves a collaboration of AIA Austin Committees.

Bouldin Residence on Austin Cool House Tour

This private green home in Austin, Texas earned a 5 Star Rating from Austin Energy Green Building Program and will now be available for viewing on the Austin Cool House Tour June 7, 2015.

The home has a very distinctive design that fits into the shape of the lot. The windows open towards beautiful views of downtown Austin.

These features contributed to the high score of the 5 Star Rating:

-100% of the steel used for the structural system is recycled, some directly reused from old factories and warehouses.

Flashflooding and Floodplain Management

The April Cote Seminar on Resiliency welcomed Jameson Courtney of Watershed Protection Department. He presented “Understanding Flash-flooding” power-point attached. Of note are the Austin Code requirements and how building design relates to flood insurance. You can find Courtney’s contact information on the last slide if you need more information.
