austin by design is a month-long series of events promoting the variety of organizations and events that celebrate design in both the built and natural environments.

Over 20 organizations will join AIA Austin and come together to engage the public and demonstrate the ways that design can shape and improve daily life.

Book Drive a Huge Success

LiA-Austin volunteers got together, on the last weekend of August, to sort through hundreds of books and magazines collected during the 1st annual book donation drive, “From an Architect’s Bookshelf”. At the end of the day, it was clear that final numbers had surpassed initial expectations, as Austin architects and designers donated nearly 350 books and more than 400 architectural magazines. All items were organized, classified and carefully boxed for future delivery to local area High Schools (more to come on date of delivery). A big THANK YOU to all those individuals and firms who dona

Book Drive to Inspire Austin Youth

Please join AIA Austin’s “Latinos in Architecture” for the first annual "From an Architect's Bookshelf"   This book donation drive/library development program will provide Austin area High Schools with books that are essential for the teaching and research of Architecture.

Placemaking Case Studies

 What are some exciting place/destinations that provide connectivity to cultural infrastructure?  At our June monthly meeting, our members introduced case studies showing multidisciplinary collaborations (architects, artists, etc). 

 

 

 

Emily Layton presented Uplift Austin’s work at the Garza outdoor classroom and trail, and the South 1st entry into Williamson Creek green belt.

 

 

 

Destination Spaces

Why would someone want to go THERE?  What makes an amazing space?  At our monthly meeting, we began workshopping our first Educational Building Block toward a Art/Space Design Competition that would "Elevate the Profile and Quality of Design" in our community.
