Austin Comp Plan Vision Update - Get Ready for the Next Round of Meetings in October

 With the next round of the Comp Plan, Community Forum Series #3, right around the corner, our members should familiarize themselves with adopted Vision of the Comp Plan as approved by Council in August.  Our input at the Community Forum Series, as in earlier efforts, can assist the development of defined paths to achieve this vision.  Please take a moment (or two) to read through the "lengthy" vision. 

A City Architect for Austin

A 28 July 2010 job posting at City of Austin Public Works for "City Architect" unintentionally launched an avalanche of emails within our Committee pondering what a "City Architect" should be:  What would the impact be of a staff architect point person for design issues?

AIA Austin 2010 Summer Conference


I'm very excited about  our education line up this year.  We're happy to bring Keynote Speakers, Kathy Zarsky, Associate AIA of HOLO who on Thursday will present Learning About Biomimicry and introduction to biomimicry as a sensible, eco-friendly approach to design; and, on Friday, Hugh Hochberg of The Coxe Group in Seattle who will present Change or Die! An exploration of the direction of practice and the factors and trends that will influence it.

Partnership Forum Application Deadline - July 9th

AIA Austin is pleased to announce the 2nd annual Partnership Forum geared towards ambitious young Architects and Architectural Interns.  The AIA Austin Partnership Forum provides an ongoing opportunity to share and discuss issues related to the personal and professional leadership development of Architects and Architectural Interns with a group of ambitious peers and an experienced mentor. Participants should be interested in matters related to becoming a leader within their own firm or in developing a new practice.

Event Design Voice Volunteer Day at Manos de Cristo

March 6, 2010 - 10:00am to 2:00pm

This event has already occurred.

AIA Design Voice partnered with Manos de Cristo to design and build computer desks.

We designed 8 desks with computer tower stands on a very low budget for a very small space that were able to be constructed by volunteers.

Construction time of the desks took two Saturdays, March 6th and 13th 10 am - 2pm.

Extra materials were used to make a projector stand in a couple of hours on an additional Saturday, March 20th, 10am-12pm.
