Call for Volunteers!!
AIA Austin needs volunteers to teach elementary school kids for the Fall Semester of the 2009-2010 school year. The Architecture in the Schools program is a ten-week course taught to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in their classroom, using a curriculum developed by the AIA Austin. We need volunteers who can devote an hour of their time every week for classroom instruction (plus travel time and instruction preparation). Classroom instruction begins in September and runs until the first week of November.
A brief workshop will be held at the Center for Architecture to review each grade level's curriculum, meet the other volunteers, and discuss the expectations for the upcoming year.
The 3rd Grade Workshop/Materials pick up will occur on Tuesday, August 25th from 5:30-6:30 pm.
The 4th Grade Workshop/Materials pick up will occur on Wednesday, August 26th from 5:30 -6:30 pm.
The 5th Grade Workshop/Materials pick up will occur on Thursday, August 27th from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.
Volunteers will be notified at least one week in advance of these workshops with their grade level assignments.
The end of year student showcase will take place at the Center for Architecture - date and time TBD.
Any interested parties should contact Denise Shaw.
