ARCHITECTURE FOR HEALTH COMMITTEE
The Committee's aim is to develop knowledge and information to benefit Architects, Owners, Constructors and Consultants who are engaged or interested in the design and construction of healthcare facilities.
Meetings are on the third Friday of every month.

PAST ACTIVITIES:
June 19th: Dr. Lisa Bielamowicz will be here from the Advisory Board Company and will be speaking on emerging technologies. The presentation will provide the necessary background to discuss integration of cutting-edge technologies into medical facility design and renovation. In particular, it will allow participants to be able to better incorporate clinical, financial, operationally and infrastructure considerations and to allow healthcare organizations to plan proactivley for expansion.
May 15th: Andrea Novack-Wood from Graeber, Simmons, & Cowan showed some tools to help get projects off the paper and into people's imaginations.
April 17th: Frank Graham, BIM specialist with JE Dunn, will be here to talk about Building Information Modeling with a focus on the healthcare field. Frank is an architect by trade and works currently on the side of the building contractor (1 LU).
March 20th: Accessibility in Texas: David Deming will be here to talk to you about accessibility in Texas and will share some design considerations when doing space planning.
February 20, 2009: This meeting featured a presentation by Tim Dunahoo with Innova Group. He spoke about an ongoing project in which they integrate the Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center.
January 16th, 2009: This meeting served as a planning meeting for 2009 and presented a speaker, Gerard Vanderweken from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
December 19, 2008: Marvin Hecker of JanCom Technologies, Inc. spoke about the process and parameters of planning and designing AV systems into healthcare facilities,technology trends & how to provide for future flexiblility.
November 21st , 2008: We had a presentation by Alan Bell, AIA of Seton Family of Hospitals & Don Eckols, AIA of Eckols & Associates AIA. They spoke about: Building the Business case for Going Green. We had our largest turn-out yet of 46 people!
October 17th, 2008: We had a successful second meeting with an open discussion about physician-owned vs. acute-care hospitals following a short presentation by William Massingill, of Polkinghorn Architects.
It was great to have the input and perspective of two facility directors, contractors, and many architects and designers.
September 19th, 2008: We had great turn out at our first meeting. Our members included individuals from construction, design, architecture and healthcare facilities.
