Earth Day 2018: Box City

At the Earth Day 2018 festival, Architecture K-12 hosted Box City, a fun design-build crafting activity for kids of all ages. AIA architects set up a miniature grid of downtown Austin and invited participants to recreate iconic buildings of downtown using recycled boxes and crafting materials. Children of all ages created these inventive models and recreations of their favorite spots in town, like the Paramount Theatre, City Hall, Governor’s Mansion, and a TV News Station. In addition, detailed models of the Capitol, Frost Bank and the 360 Condominiums were loaned to us by the Emerging Professionals committee, who had created their own scale models for another event. It was a great day and we intend to return in 2019!
