Small Firms Roundtable

Mission
Members of AIA Austin small firms' community (generally characterized as having 10 or fewer employees, designing small to medium projects) meet monthly to learn and discuss:  business and technical issues; advocacy; and, camaraderie and business networking. 

The committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 11:45am.  Contact the committee chair to learn more.

Join us for our January 19th Small Firm’s Roundtable at the Center for Architecture.  Darrell Smith with the Mendicant Architect will  discuss BIM and its advantages in a Small firm.  He will discuss using BIM as a design process, the competitive value of BIM, the time saved, and the marketing value of BIM software.  The meeting will begin at 11:45 with networking....

The agenda included reviewing last years monthly meeting topics and sharing ideas for 2012. Suggested topics include Social Media, Interviewing, BIM, Contracts, Preparing for the ADA Guideline Changes, Financial Management, Insurance, and Working with an Architect from the Consultant's Perspective.

Construction Lawyer Matt Ryan of Allensworth & Porter, LLP joined us for a roundtable discussion about legal issues.

Today Maureen Scanion visited with the group and discussed Austin Energy's green building processes.  She shared information on the history of the program, how the Austin Energy Rating system works, and some of the major changes from AEGB Commercial 2009 to AEGB Commercial 2010.
